Command An Army Attack and Defend Compositions

Two launch packages: a Castle defend ring and an attack hook that does not feed spears.

Attack and Defend Comps

Tiers tell you which Command An Army troops matter. Compositions tell you how many of each to field before you press Attack or Defend. This page is two packages plus a budget version for people who only have code gems. Pair it with formations so the package actually faces the right way.

Package D — Castle defend (default)

When: Most maps, especially Castle. Launch maps are defense-biased. If nobody in chat called a plan, this is the plan.

Core: Shieldman + Spearman + Spartan. That is the circle method list.

Reserve: A small Cavalry group, not the whole army.

Job list:

  • Shields on the ring, outward.
  • Spears on the horse approach.
  • Spartans stitching the ring so it is not hollow.
  • Cavalry waiting until a charge bounces, then hitting the exposed back.
  • Commander on the point, not on a sightseeing tour.

Win condition: They break on the ring. The capture never empties. You take First Victory without a cinematic.

Failure mode: You unpack the ring to chase a Scout Rider. Don’t. The Scout Rider counter is patience plus backline, not a footrace.

Package A — Attack hook (conditional)

When: Their ring is late, they are all Cavalry, or the point is empty because everyone is dueling.

Core: A cheap shield soak + Cavalry hook + a few spears in case they counter-charge.

Job list:

  • Soak front contacts the wall so horses are not the first body in spears.
  • Cavalry goes wide, not down the spear throat.
  • Someone — even leftover infantry — walks onto the capture when the wall rotates.
  • If the wall does not rotate, you abort. Feeding on a defense map is how you lose two rounds.

Failure mode: All horses, no soak, straight down the middle. That is a donation to A-tier Spearmen.

Budget package — first 1,400 gems

Assume RELEASE, WAR, BUGFIX, and LEBALANCE still work.

  1. Shieldmen until you have a visible wall.
  2. Spearmen until horses have a lane they dislike.
  3. Cavalry if gems remain.
  4. Spartan when the shop/spin allows, via how to get Spartans.
  5. Zero mystery spins until those four boxes exist.

That is also the gem planner. If a pass tempts you, extra inventory is more honest than Skip Summon Spin at this stage.

Color reading

Official art uses blue-yellow sword infantry versus red shield infantry. Use that as a reminder that two jobs exist, not as a faction lock. You still pick attack or defend independently of the color of the hats you bought. The E prompts sit above both lines for a reason.

Team compositions in a 12-player server

You are not fielding the entire team’s roster. If two teammates already went full Cavalry, you are the wall even if you wanted to be the hook. Call it in chat. Silent triple-horse is how defense-biased maps farm pubs. Discord groups from official links exist so Package D can actually be staffed.

After you win with a package

Do not immediately invert it. If Package D is printing wins, keep defending. Novelty attacks are how leads die. Swap to Package A only when you have a reason the other ring is late. That discipline is how to win in composition language.

Patch note

If Cavalry is nerfed, Package D stays and Package A gets cheaper soak. If spears are nerfed, horses get braver and you still need a wall. Compositions should survive a single number tweak. If they do not, the composition was a screenshot, not a plan.

Build the package, then place it. Ranking Cavalry S does nothing if your Shieldmen are in the shop.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for codes, troops, and match setups.

What is the default Command An Army composition?

Castle defend: Shieldman, Spearman, Spartan, with Cavalry in reserve.

When should I run the attack hook?

When their wall is late or the point is empty. Not as a default on defense-biased maps.

What if my team already picked Cavalry?

You buy the wall. A 12-player server cannot survive three horse mains.

Where do I learn the circle placement?

On the formations page. This page is the shopping list.
