Command An Army Roster
Roles for every troop you will actually field: closer, wall, anti-horse, elite, disruptor.
Command An Army does not use a MOBA-style locked champion. The “players” on this wiki are the troops you command: Cavalry, Shieldmen, Spearmen, Spartans, Scout Riders, Samurai, and the rest of the summon pile. You are the commander. They are the roster. If you buy without naming a job, you are collecting toys for a 12-player match that will not wait.
This hub maps jobs. Deep pages:
- Cavalry — the closer.
- Infantry — Shieldman, Spearman, Spartan.
- Summons — spins, Samurai, Scout Rider, inventory.
Ranks for those jobs live on the tier list. Placement lives on formations.
Role sheet
Closer (Cavalry). Highest community ceiling. Hits a side after a wall holds. Dies into a spear funnel. Do not start the round with every horse in the front rank.
Wall (Shieldman and shield infantry). Stands on the point. Faces outward. The red and blue-yellow shield rows in official art are this job. First buy for most new accounts.
Anti-horse (Spearman). Makes Cavalry a decision instead of a win button. Required for the Castle circle list.
Elite infantry (Spartan). Stitches the circle. Unlock path on how to get Spartans. Not a wall replacement.
Disruptor (Scout Rider). Annoying, counterable. If you cannot name the counter, you will chase it off the capture and lose.
Identity summon (Samurai and friends). Flavor that still has matchups (Spartans vs Samurais). Field after the core exists.
How recruiting connects to commanding
The official loop is recruit, capture, order formations, collect, upgrade. Recruiting without upgrading gives you a paper wall. Upgrading without formations gives you expensive paper. Collecting without deleting gives you a cap problem, which is why +50 Inventory Space is a pass.
Gems from codes should map onto this role sheet in order: wall, anti-horse, closer, elite, then spins. The gem planner is that sentence with numbers.
Army size honesty
A pre-release clip stressed 300 troops. Live comments talk about a much smaller practical cap (around 30 in some remarks). Play the cap you can micro. A 12-player server plus launch lag is not a Total War engine. If you cannot rotate the wall, you own too many bodies. Delete toward the match checklist.
Reading official art like a roster sheet
- Commander on a brown horse in front of shield ranks: Cavalry fantasy plus a wall behind it. That is a correct poster, not an all-horse guide.
- Two infantry blocks with Attack and Defend labels: stance plus two jobs (sword line vs shield line).
- Red arrow at an enemy horse: “this unit will run you over if you face the wrong way.”
Art is not a hidden code. It is the loop drawn with Lego-like troops.
When a unit “feels bad”
Check facing first, then matchup, then patch. LEBALANCE already happened. If Cavalry “feels bad” into spears, that is the Spearman job working. If Spartans “feel bad” alone, they wanted a circle. If Scout Rider “feels broken,” watch the counter video on troop tiers before you rewrite your shop.
Team roster versus personal roster
In a 12-player match your personal roster is one slice. If the team is all closers, you are the wall even if Cavalry is S. Call roles in chat or bring Discord people from official links. The wiki cannot staff your pub.
Open Cavalry if you only remember horses. Open infantry if you need the circle shopping list explained like jobs, not like a gacha.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for codes, troops, and match setups.
Are these player characters or troops?
Troops. You command the army. The roster pages are Cavalry, infantry, and summons.
Who should I unlock first?
Shieldman and Spearman, then Cavalry, then Spartan. See the gem planner.
Where is the Scout Rider page?
Grouped under summons with the counter notes pointing at troop tiers.
Do upgrades matter?
Yes. Collect and upgrade is in the official description. Upgrade the units you actually form.
